Just Get to the Gym

Most people know Woody Allen for his work in the film industry; however, this short, yet insightful quote can also apply to getting in shape. Every year, millions of American resolve to lose weight and get in shape for the New Year; however, very few are actually successful. The main problem people have is simply not putting themselves in the position to be successful.

Getting There

All you have to do is show up to a gym each day, and I promise you that you’ll get something done. The problem is that most people fail to even show up and try. The excuse I hear most often is that I don’t have the time. For most people, there is a gym within 10 minutes of their home, so time to get there isn’t really an excuse. Apartment complexes often have their often fitness facility as well, heck, with the purchase of a few very simple and cheap items, you won’t even need to go anywhere to workout.

Once you have found a location, GO! Just go there one day and check it out. You may or may not sign up for a membership or even feel comfortable working out that day. That is okay. Simply starting the process can be very motivating and help you follow through. Taking that first step may be enough forward momentum to get you on your way.

Someone To Push You

Woody’s quote is probably most applicable if you decide to utilize a personal trainer, like myself, to train you. At this point, it really is 80% of success is showing up. Once you have a trainer, they are going to keep you accountable for getting your workouts in and making sure you get the most out of each and every workout.

Yes, you are going to commit some money to hiring a trainer; however, you’ll have access to equipment and knowledge to workout with and actually be made to use it. Heck, you may even be paying for a gym membership right now that you aren’t even using. The great thing about hiring a personal trainer is that I or whoever you hire actually cares about taking you that 80%. It can be daunting to take on the "showing up" aspect of training but with a trainer, we are going to call you, remind you, and hunt you down until you show up because we already know that showing up is the biggest part of fitness and weight loss success.
